The Congress party accused the Modi government of reversing the economic progress achieved under Manmohan Singhs prime ministership alleging that mismanagement has set economic transformation back by 20 years. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted a decline in agricultural workers during Singhs tenure which was seen as a transition towards higher wage occupations in manufacturing and services. However Ramesh claimed that this progress has been almost entirely reversed within three years of Modis tenure with a significant increase in agricultural workers since 2018 19. He emphasized that economic growth entails diversification of employment from agriculture to industry to services a sequence that India was following until the alleged mismanagement under Modis leadership. Ramesh criticized Modi’s policies, accusing them of hindering Indias path to prosperity.
