The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at the residences of former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik and 29 other locations in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption related to the Rs 2,200-crore Kiru Hydropower project. Approximately 100 officers were deployed to 30 different locations across multiple cities in Jammu and Kashmir Punjab Haryana Uttar Pradesh Bihar and R. The case involves suspected corruption in the awarding of civil works for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project. Satyapal Malik who served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019 previously claimed to have been offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to approve certain files including one related to the project. The CBI stated that the case was registered based on allegations of malpractices in awarding a contract worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore for the civil works of the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project to a private company in 2019. Former officials including Navin Kumar Chaudhary M S Babu M K Mittal and Arun Kumar Mishra as well as Patel Engineering Ltd are also facing charges in connection with the case. Satyapal Malik responding to the raids asserted that he would not be intimidated despite being admitted to the hospital due to illness. He condemned the raids describing them as unnecessary harassment orchestrated by the government and affirmed his solidarity with the farmers.
