On Wednesday Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania suspended 15 BJP MLAs including Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and adjourned the House. They were suspended for misbehavior and shouting slogans during the session. Earlier Thakur expressed apprehensions that the Speaker might suspend BJP MLAs to facilitate the passage of the budget in the Vidhan Sabha. He pointed out that the recent Rajya Sabha election had revealed the Congress government minority status and called for the resignation of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The BJP’s victory in the state lone Rajya Sabha seat on Tuesday with candidate Harsh Mahajan defeating Congress stalwart Abhishek Manu Singhvi due to cross voting by Congress MLAs preceded these developments.
