Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has tendered his resignation from both the party membership and his position as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). This move comes after Maurya had previously stepped down as the Samajwadi Party’s national general secretary on February 13. In his resignation letter addressed to Akhilesh Yadav, Maurya expressed disappointment over the lack of initiative taken regarding talks held on February 12, 2024, and the subsequent letter sent on February 13, 2024. He cited this as the reason for his decision to resign from the primary membership of the Samajwadi Party. Additionally Maurya sent a separate letter to the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council stating his resignation from his position as an MLC on moral grounds. The Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is currently experiencing internal turmoil, with several members resigning from their positions. In addition to Maurya, Pallavi Patel, Kamal Kumar Gautam, Brajesh Prajapati, and Salim Shervani have all left the party within a week. Saleem Sherwani, who resigned from the post of Samajwadi Party’s General Secretary, criticized the party for not adhering to its election principles and announced his resignation against the backdrop of the party announcing the name of a candidate for the Rajya Sabha.
