The Supreme Court has intervened in the Chandigarh mayoral polls controversy by requesting a recount of votes, including eight previously rejected ballots. These eight invalidated ballots were found to have votes in favor of the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate, Kuldeep Kumar. The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud alongside justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, was addressing a petition filed by AAP’s Kumar, alleging electoral malpractices by the returning officer, Anil Masih. During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned Masih about the rejected ballots, pointing out that Masih had put a single line against the paper, despite earlier claims of defacement.
