Apple has issued a warning advising against the traditional method of placing iPhones in a bag of rice to dry out if they come into contact with water. According to Apple, this practice can potentially cause further damage to the device as small particles of rice may enter and harm the iPhone. Instead, Apple recommends gently tapping the device against the hand with the connector facing downward to remove excess water. Afterward, the iPhone should be placed in a dry area with some airflow for up to 24 hours before attempting to charge it using a USB-C or lightning connector. Apple also advises against using foreign objects such as hair dryers or compressed air to remove liquid from the device and cautions against inserting cotton swabs or paper towels into the connector. While Apple claims that its latest iPhones are water-resistant and can withstand immersion in water for up to 30 minutes, users are encouraged not to exacerbate any water damage by resorting to the rice-drying method.
